Types of repairs

  • Re-veiling service

For a fraction of the cost of a new hood, our skilled machinists can repair or replace the veiling and make your veil as good as new.

Prices to re-veil start at £45 including vat.

If your hood really is beyond repair, Sherriff hoods are detachable and interchangeable, so you can purchase a new hood to go on your existing suit. Please contact us to order. Prices start at £69 including vat.

  • Zip repair

All zips on your Sherriff suit or jacket come with a 5-year warranty. So if you experience any problems with zips within 5 years of purchase, we will replace them free of charge (UK only). You can find the date of manufacture on your garment’s CE label.

If your garment is more than five years old, we can still replace your zips. Prices start at £25 including vat.

  • Other repairs

Whatever is wrong with your garment, do get in touch if it needs some TLC. We can handle everything from repairing tears, replacing pockets, less-than-sticky hook and loop fasteners, or elastic and toggles that have lost their stretch.

  • Repairing faulty garments

We very rarely have apparel returned to us as faulty – our machinists really are sewing specialists, some with over 30 years experience, and each garment is thoroughly checked before sending.

However, if you receive a garment that isn’t up to our exacting standards, please send it back to us for repair, exchange or a refund. At no cost to yourself of course.

Returning items for repair

  • Step 1: Get an estimate

Please call (+44 (0)1872 863 304) or email us (hello@bjsherriff.com) to tell us what needs repairing so that we can give you an estimate for the cost and timescales. If you’re emailing, it’s helpful to include a photo if you can.

We’ll tell you what we expect it to cost, but we can’t give you a completely accurate quote until the machinist has finished the repair.

On top of the repair charge, we charge a return delivery fee. For UK mainland addresses, we charge £7.14, except for any garments still under warranty, in which case we will pay return postage. If you are not in the UK, we will confirm the return postage cost when you contact us.

  • Step 2: Clean your garment

We can only repair clean garments, please make sure you have washed, and thoroughly dried yours before you pack it up. Read our suit care guide.

Dirty garments may clog the sewing machine, and the machinist may be allergic to wax, propolis and so on. If your garment is returned dirty, we will charge you an additional £10 + vat cleaning fee.

  • Step 3: Pack and send

If you’re happy with the cost, please print and complete our returns form, and send, together with your garment, to:

    BJ Sherriff
    1 Carclew Road
    Mylor Downs
    Falmouth
    Cornwall
    TR11 5UN

If you don’t have a printer, please include the following information written clearly on a piece of paper:

    • Name
    • Address
    • Email address
    • Phone number

Please pack your garment carefully. We recommend sending it tracked/recorded delivery.

  • Step 4: Repair

We’ll confirm receipt, and our expert machinists will work on getting your garment back to its best.

  • Step 5: Get it back

We’ll contact you to confirm the cost of the repair and take payment. (We accept debit card payments. We no longer accept cheques.) Once payment is received, we’ll send your garment back to you.

Questions

  • How long do repairs take?

It depends on what needs doing, but generally between 2 and 5 weeks.

  • When is the best time to get a garment repaired?

The best time to arrange a repair or refurbishment is at the end of the beekeeping season so that your garment is in great shape for the coming season.

  • What happens if we can’t repair it?

No matter how old your BJ Sherriff suit or other BJ Sherriff apparel is, we will always try to restore it to its former glory. Sometimes this may not be viable. Garments will understandably get to the stage through age, wear and tear, when the clothing is beyond economical recovery. We will of course let you know if this is the case and can still return your garment to you.

Prevention is better than cure

The best way to extend the life of your suit is to clean and store it correctly. Head to our garment care page for instructions on how to clean and wash your garments.
