Personal safety guide

Garments from BJ Sherriff are supplied solely as workwear for beekeeping or pest control. No responsibility can be taken by BJ Sherriff should you receive a flying insect sting(s) while wearing this product.

For optimum protection

Protective clothing cannot be guaranteed, but there are ways you can ensure optimum protection while working with bees and other flying insects.

You should always:

  • wear adequate clothing underneath your suit, along with purpose-made, suitable thickness gloves and footwear.
  • check all zips to make sure they are fully closed.
  • check your suit and veil thoroughly.

BJ Sherriff has provided protective clothing for over 50 years; however, even if you take all precautions, we do not guarantee that you will not receive a sting when wearing BJ Sherriff garments.

Take sensible precautions

Care should be taken at all times when working with bees, wasps, or other flying insects:

  • Do not go beekeeping alone and seek other advice on the best times to visit your bees.
  • Avoid strong-smelling perfumes, aftershave, and scented hair or laundry products.
  • Avoid spicy foods and garlic before visiting your bees.

If you are allergic or feel that you are becoming more sensitive to stings, please check with your GP or Health Practitioner as to suitable medication you should carry with you in case of an allergic reaction, such as an *Epipen (or similar automatic injection) for acute allergic reactions.
